Wonder Woman #1

Normally, I don’t really care about Wonder Woman. I enjoy her as a member of the Justice League, but I’ve never had any interest in her solo stuff. So this was yet another pleasant surprise.

The story is simple: someone is trying to kill a woman for an unknown reason, and Wonder Woman comes to her rescue. Various gods and mythical creatures also play prominent and interesting parts. In fact, it seems like they’re playing-up the Greek mythology stuff, and downplaying the Paradise Island stuff – which was always pretty dull to me.

This is also quite violent, and some parts seem like they belong in a horror book (like the part with the horses). There’s also plenty of action, exposition, and set-up for the future.

I really like the artwork too. Everything is very well-defined and clean, which means you can actually follow what’s going on in the action scenes.

Two small quibbles: First, I’m not sure why WW is wearing silver now instead of gold – but it does look good. Second, I’m kinda disappointed that DC chose not to give WW pants.

Verdict: I’m shocked that I’m very interested in this
